A number of metro-area residents, including one from Woodbury, have pulled down big lottery wins in the last few weeks.
The Minnesota State Lottery in Roseville reported Thursday that two tickets (one in Arizona and Missouri) split the record-setting Powerball jackpot which topped an estimated $587.5 million. "Each Powerball jackpot winning ticket is worth over $293 million," according to Minnesota Lottery officials. "We had one $1,000,000 winner, six $10,000 winners, and 167,311 other winning tickets sold in Minnesota so check your tickets!" Minnesota Lottery officials noted that the state's $1 million winner is from a ticket purchased in Winona County. "Minnesota players set a new record for the Nov. 28 drawing, generating more than $10.9 million in sales," they added. "Retailers earned more than $1.5 million in commissions."
