On the Blog Post Should School Policies Override Medical Conditions?

ReplyThank you for the wonderful advice. My son currently has IEP and a Strategies Class. I have medical notes, supplied his psychological diagnosis, and I have even signed a medical release for the Washington County Caseworker to pull medical records. I will definitely look into PACER and 504 Plan. Previously considered the online schooling, but I don't think it would hold his attention even with his medication, plus he will miss out on the high school experience with his friends.

ReplyCan't help but notice that each week shook arrests are drug possession and burglaries. It's a shame.

I have a few reasons why I would not let him know the depth of my feelings. 1) I was raised in an environment where we did not openly express emotions/feelings (I am changing this with my own children). 2) I have been married/divorced and a couple of relationships that used my feelings to try and gain the upper hand. 3) If I told him that he would think I was joking - since I don't express verbally - and joke with me by saying, "what did you do now?" He knows I love him and express it in my own way.

ReplyThank you for sharing. I noticed since tracking my moods in the journal this month, I am able to pinpoint when negativity strikes and documented how I got out of the funky mood. It is crazy how the brain works.

ReplyMy stepson kept asking me if the world was really going to end. I told him "no" but that still didn't ease the anxiety he was feeling. I did add that it would be good to be cautious since there are many that truly believe that today is the end of the world. He really was stressed and would have stayed home today, but he has a basketball game this evening (dedicated to his sports). My son on the other hand, has severe stress/anxiety and is at home spending time with our pets.
I wish people really knew how these rumors effect our kids. Even though they are listening to the logic of their parents, it doesn't mean that the seed of doubt has not been planted. The damage is already done.
I applaud the Woodbury Police for making their presence known during this time. I am also thankful that there is at least one officer at the schools on a daily basis. Our children should not have to be victims to the actions of mentally unstable persons. It is terrible that they want to end the lives of young kids before taking their own.

ReplyMy kids were sad to hear this news. They said he was a great teacher. I reminded them to respect their teachers today as they lost a co-worker/friend. RIP Mr. Sommer of Woodbury Senior High.

ReplyI appreciate your opinion. You may have perfect mental health and commend you for it. However, I am reaching out to others that may have mental health issues, letting them know they are not alone, and offer suggestions on what I do to cope around the holidays. If you do not like my December segment of Holidays and Depression Cherished Moments, then you have the option not to read it.
