"I Confess" is a rarely shown Alfred Hitchcock film starring Montgomery Clift, Anne Baxter and Karl Malden. It is a story of a priest (Clift) who hears a murderer's confession. The priest falls under suspicion for a crime he has motive to commit, but will not reveal what he knows because of his vow of confidentiality. Alfred Hitchcock had a Jesuit upbringing and this is his most overtly religious film. Themes of church and state, the temptation of martyrdom and even the celibacy of Catholic priests are all part of the movie. We should have a lively discussion afterward. Everyone is welcome.
