Man Allegedly Punches Woodbury Police Officer

The 23-year-old was tased during the July 4 incident.

A St. Paul man faces a felony assault charge after he allegedly punched a Woodbury police officer in the face during the early-morning hours of July 4.

Alexander Steven Alfveby, 23, was tased while fighting with police before being arrested, according to the criminal complaint.

Woodbury police on routine patrol at about 12:15 a.m. came upon a couple near Tamarack Road and Parkside Drive. Officers learned they were Alfveby’s parents, and they were looking for him after he became upset and left their home, the complaint says.

Alfveby was found in parking lot of Footprints Academy, not wearing his shirt, crying and holding his head in his hands. He fell while trying to walk up an embankment and police could smell alcohol coming from him, according to the complaint. Alfveby was released into his parents’ custody.

A short time later, near the 9200 block of Parkside Drive, police heard shouting coming from the area of his parents’ home, and they walked toward the house.

Alfveby then walked quickly toward police with his chest puffed out and fists clenched, did not stop when ordered to do so, and charged toward one officer, the complaint says.

He punched the officer in the face and while fighting with him was tased in the back, according to the complaint.

The officer had a bruise and reddening above his left eye.

If convicted, Alfveby faces up to three years in prison and a $6,000 fine.
