Kelly Fenton to Seek 53B House Seat That Andrea Kieffer Is Leaving
Fenton, a Woodbury resident, is currently deputy chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota. The district includes eastern and most of southern Woodbury.
Kelly Fenton of Woodbury has filed to run for election as representative for Minnesota House District 53B, Politics in Minnesota reported Friday morning.
District 53B includes all of the city of Woodbury except a northwest section west of Radio Drive and north of Bailey Road (click on PDF thumbnail for map).
Fenton's announcement comes nine days after Kieffer's Nov. 6 announcement that she would not seek re-election in 2014.
“I’m running to represent our community in the Minnesota House of Representatives to protect our quality of life and give the residents of Woodbury a voice for efficient, effective government at the Capitol,” Fenton said in a statement quoted by PiM. “As a former public school teacher, I had the privilege to see firsthand how our young people grow and thrive when they have the best tools. In the legislature, I’ll put our children first and support policies where they can work hard, play by the rules and succeed in our community.”
DFLer Kay Hendrickson, a member of the Woodbury Planning Commission, announced in July her intention to run for the seat.
