School Board 2013 Election: 5 Open Seats

The election for the South Washington County Board is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Five seats on the South Washington County School Board are up for election this fall.

In addition four seats for four-year terms, one elected District 833 School Board member will serve a two-year term ending in January 2016, following the resignation of former Chair Leslee Boyd. (That seat is currently held by Kathleen McElwee-Stevens.)

The election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Filing

The filing period for candidates opens July 30 and closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 13.

Affidavits of candidacy will be available the District Service Center, 7362 E. Point Douglas Road S., in Cottage Grove. The filing fee is $2.

The affidavits of candidacy can be filed in the office of the school district clerk Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the filing fee paid prior to 5 p.m. on Aug. 13.

Candidates must be eligible voters, 21 years of age or more upon assuming office, have been a resident of the school district for 30 days before the general election, and have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election.

Candidates must also confirm that they have not been convicted of an offense for which registration is required under Minnesota Statutes, Section 243.166 (Registration of Predatory Offenders).
