New Pet Food Store Opens In Woodbury

Woodbury has a new pet food store that promises to bring more “eco-friendly” options to town.

Pet Evolution opened Feb. 20 at 2230 Eagle Creek Lane, in the same building as and .

The store offers “healthy concepts” for pet food and supplies, said owner Mike Osborn, including a freezer full of raw food, seeds for wild birds and leashes made from recycled materials.

Osborn said he has always been into animals and used to “study animal nutrition on the side for fun.”

But after 10 years in offices, some accounting work and schooling as a vet tech, he decided to open a pet food store. While he lives in Inver Grove Heights—with his three dogs, two cats and two horses—his mother and sister both live in Woodbury, and he thought it would be a good fit for Pet Evolution.

“Woodbury mostly has big-box stores,” Osborn said. “People in Woodury love their pets. … This is more of a neighborhood-type store.”

People can bring their pets into the shop, said Rian Thiele, who works at Pet Evolution. “Dogs and cats are welcome.”

“Or ferrets,” Osborn chimed in, “as long as they’re on a leash.”

Already Pet Evolution has had repeat customers, Thiele said. “People really like it.”

Residents have responded well to the new store, Osborn added, and like having a wide range of options and price points for pet food.

A grand opening will be held sometime this April, said Osborn, whose grandmother and father both owned their own businesses.

Pet Evolution also gives Osborn a chance to donate food to animal shelters and rescue groups, for which he’s often volunteered.

The companies whose products are sold at Pet Evolution stand behind their goods, and people can return items if their animals don’t like them, Osborn said.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
