Urban Cowboy: Mechanical Bull at Woodbury Cowboy Jack’s from John Travolta Movie

The new bar and restaurant is set to open Monday, May 6.

The mechanical bull at the new Cowboy Jack’s in Woodbury is from the 1980 John Travolta movie Urban Cowboy.

“It’s a little piece of trivia and it’s kind of fun,” said Chris Diebold, owner.

He said it was a “super long story” getting the bull from the movie. The first mechanical bull he planned to buy didn’t pan out when the seller on eBay seemed a little fishy, Diebold said.

The mechanical bull comes from Gilley’s, a bar in Texas that served as the backdrop for Urban Cowboy, he said.

Diebold said he had to call in an electrician to do some work on the mechanical bull.

“When we first got it, it ran like crazy,” he said. “It would kill you.”

The plan is for the mechanical to be able to be ridden by children as well as adults.

Cowboy Jack’s is set to open Monday, May 6, at the former Woody’s Roadhouse location along Woodlane Drive.
