Woodbury Man Accused of Attacking Girlfriend, Urinating on Her Possessions

Jeffrey Michael Barrett, 34, faces a felony charge.

A Woodbury man faces a felony domestic assault by strangulation charge after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during a March domestic incident, after which he apparently urinated on some of her possessions.

Jeffrey Michael Barrett, 33, “snapped” and accused his girlfriend of cheating on him with another man, then threw her on the floor of her Woodbury apartment, ripped out chunks of her hair and strangled her to the point that she couldn’t breathe, according to the criminal complaint. She told police she was afraid for her life.

That incident occurred during the early morning hours of March 18, and police spoke with the alleged victim on March 20. The woman had bruising around her left eye and a scratch on her forehead, along with other injuries, the complaint says.

The morning after the alleged assault, the woman noticed her makeup and brushes were lying out on a bathroom counter and smelled strongly of urine, according to the complaint.

Barrett was taken into custody on March 20, and during an interview with police admitted to a physical confrontation, though he said he was defending himself, the complaint says. Police, however, noticed several discrepancies in his story, and he told officers he “can’t get his story straight” and laughed.

He also told police he was “pretty sure” that he did not urinate on the woman’s items, according to the complaint.

Police on March 21 went to the Ashwood Road apartment and found strands of the woman’s hair on the floor, along with the strong smell of urine and yellow residue in the bathroom.

If convicted, Barrett faces up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
