Scary Halloween House in Woodbury

Katie Mudgett says she would like to see more trick-or-treaters come by. "We have full-sized candy bars."

When it comes to Halloween decorations, Woodbury resident Katie Mudgett has a rule.

“I like the scary stuff,” she said. “Nothing cheesy allowed.”

She’s not kidding.

Her home at the 9400 block of Wentlock Road has frightening clowns, zombies, a headless woman, fog machines, strobe lights and haunting music. Many of them move or make sounds or pop up to spook trick-or-treaters.

There’s just one problem.

“I would love to get more kids,” said Mudgett, who has even sent flyers to school with her kids about the house. “We have full-size candy bars.”

“We just want people to come and see it,” she added.

As a child, Mudgett enjoyed trick-or-treating and recalled being spooked by a guy with a chainsaw at a St. Paul fire station as a youngster.

The decorations at her home are so scary that some kids walk by and Mudgett has to run out from her porch and take off her mask.

And her own kids?

“They’re immune to it,” she said.
