Moving to the "Big Boy Bed"

I stared at my son and wondered, “What just happened here?” 

Saturday morning was starting out pretty much like every other morning. I was working in the office while my husband and son slept in a bit. I heard some movement that I assumed was my husband getting up, but was then shocked to see my almost 2 year old standing in the office with me.

He just climbed out of his crib for the first time! No thud, no crying, and no warning at all.

So now we are forced to move him into his “big boy bed” even though I am not ready. Obviously, my son is telling me it is time and I must come to terms that my little boy is growing up much faster than I ever imagined.

I tried not to get too worked up as I took his crib down to make room for the new bed. It wasn’t so much about taking the crib out of his room; I think I was secretly more nervous about his new found freedom. I wondered how difficult it would be to get him to go to sleep in his bed and how many times he might be up in the night.

We all know that children grow up way too fast.  I don’t know why I thought it would be different with my own child. I am embracing this milestone and reminding myself to enjoy that we can now snuggle in his big boy bed together for evening story time.
