The motorcycle was initially pursued by Washington County sheriff's deputies, State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske told the Star Tribune. The patrol took over about 9:45 p.m. on Interstate 94, just west of Interstate 694.

Troopers were led onto southbound Hwy. 61 toward Newport and soon after "we just lost sight of him" shortly before 10 p.m., Roeske told the Star Tribune.

Despite failing to pull the motorcyclist over, "we have a pretty good idea who he is," thanks to troopers seeing enough of the license plate, Roeske said.

He said no other motorists along the chase route were put in imminent danger.
