UPDATE: Body in River Identified as Snowmobiler Missing Since 2010

The body discovered in the St. Croix River Sunday near Afton is that of a Lake St. Croix Beach snowmobiler who went missing and was presumed drowned in February 2010.

UPDATE (4:10 p.m., Aug. 13, 2012): The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the decomposing body found in the St. Croix River on Sunday as snowmobiler Timothy Michael Pease, of Lake St. Croix Beach.

Pease went missing while riding his snowmobile on the frozen river on Feb. 4, 2010. He was presumed drowned after rescue and recovery efforts were unsuccessful.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office issued a news release with the following information:

On August 12, 2012, the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the St. Croix River near Windmill Marina to recover a deceased subject.  Subsequently the body was turned over to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.  The Ramsey County ME's Office positively identified the subject as Timothy Michael Pease.dob/071081.  It is suspected that Pease drowned after falling through the ice on the St. Croix River in February 2010.  The Pease family has asked the media to respect their wishes for privacy during this difficult time.

ORIGINAL POST (6:57 p.m., Aug. 12, 2012): Authorities on Sunday found a dead body in the St. Croix River that was “in a significant state of decomposition.”

The body was found across from Windmill Marina in Afton, near mile marker 11, according to a release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The call about “a possible deceased body in the water” came in a little before noon today, Aug. 12, according to the release.

“It was determined that the subject was deceased, appeared to had been in the water for a long period of time and was in a significant state of decomposition,” the release says. “Deputies were not able to determine the identity of the subject on scene.”

The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office and no further information was available at the time the release, which was sent at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12.

The body was found in the same area of the river — between the Windmill Marina and the Troy Burne housing development — where Lake St. Croix Beach snowmobiler Timothy Michael Pease went missing on Feb. 4, 2010, and is presumed drowned.
