UPDATE: Body in River Identified as Snowmobiler Missing Since 2010

The body discovered in the St. Croix River Sunday near Afton is that of a Lake St. Croix Beach snowmobiler who went missing and was presumed drowned in February 2010.

UPDATE (4:10 p.m., Aug. 13, 2012): The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the decomposing body found in the St. Croix River on Sunday as snowmobiler Timothy Michael Pease, of Lake St. Croix Beach.

Pease went missing while riding his snowmobile on the frozen river on Feb. 4, 2010. He was presumed drowned after rescue and recovery efforts were unsuccessful.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office issued a news release with the following information:

On August 12, 2012, the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the St. Croix River near Windmill Marina to recover a deceased subject.  Subsequently the body was turned over to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.  The Ramsey County ME's Office positively identified the subject as Timothy Michael Pease.dob/071081.  It is suspected that Pease drowned after falling through the ice on the St. Croix River in February 2010.  The Pease family has asked the media to respect their wishes for privacy during this difficult time.

So sad. This snowmobiler Tim had his accident just ten days before Ron Spychalla had his. The accidents weren't all that far from each other. Fortunately, Ron lived -- but was severely injured. There were a lot of snowmobile accidents on the river that winter. Hopefully law enforcement will patrol that general area for many years to come. Two and a half years is a LONG time for Mr. Pease's family to have closure. Praying for them...
