“In my opinion, he may have thought he hit a garbage can and he was going to back over it,” he told the TV station. “That's when I knocked on the window and said, 'Stop! Stop right there.’"

Manske took a photo as emergency workers used airbags to lift the truck off the ground, and the Jaws of Life to free Burke, but paramedics say his injuries would have been worse without the Good Samaritans who came to his aid, according to the FOX 9 report.

Burke was conscious following the accident, told Patch at the scene Wednesday morning. At this point, is not believed that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident and the driver is unlikely to be charged.

People at SuperAmerica rushed to help Burke, who suffered a head injury in addition to a snapped leg that was caught between the top of the front passenger tire and the wheel well, according to a Star Tribune report.

The driver of the SUV, Carroll, told the Star Tribune that he thought Burke may have been below his sight line, but added that he was looking around the busy gas station at the time.

"All of a sudden," he said, "I heard a noise and another gentleman ran over and said, 'Stop!'"

“We certainly appreciate that from the public—being so compassionate,” she said.
