Woodbury Crews Part of Attack on Major Oakdale Fire

The fire broke out Tuesday night at a townhome near the Oakdale movie theater.

When Woodbury firefighters got the call about a blaze in Oakdale, they could see the smoke as soon as they left the Radio Drive station.

The Oakdale Fire Department got the call a little after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The townhome partially collapsed and the unit was “completely destroyed,” said Kevin Wold, deputy fire chief in Oakdale.

The residents were home at the time but escaped unharmed. No firefighters were injured.

Woodbury sent an engine and ladder truck to the scene and “put out a lot of fire,” said Woodbury Fire Cmdr. John Wallgren.

“The guys did a nice job,” he said.

The townhome is part of a seven-unit complex at the 1100 block of Hillvale Avenue North in Oakdale, near Carmike Cinemas.

Coordination between area departments, along with a fire wall between units, “really helped save the rest of the building,” Wallgren said.
