Martin: The backbone of the Woodbury Fire Department is our paid-on-call staff. In order to maintain appropriate staffing and response levels at each station, Woodbury is looking for qualified applicants to join the department, and begin training in our fall academy.

Patch: What are the requirements?

Martin: Qualifications include living within four minutes of one of the three stations currently seeking applicants; and applicants must also complete a pre-hire physical, a physical agility test, a background check, and other requirements.

Patch: What's happening at Wednesday’s meeting?

Martin: The July 11 event is an open informational meeting where the Woodbury Fire command staff will introduce interested individuals to the department, including a detailed discussion of our fire and EMS training program, as well as an overview of the many great benefits of joining the department.

We'll also discuss the department's expectations, and a summary of what new hires should expect in their first two years with the department.

Patch: Why did you become a firefighter?

Martin: I joined the department not only because I wanted to serve and help to protect my community, but also because I saw something great about this department and its staff.
