Woodbury PD Blotter: July 8-13

Lightning strike, loose horse, light bulbs stolen (again) and other recent calls to Woodbury police.

A few housekeeping items to start in this week’s Woodbury police blotter.

First, a home at the 10900 block of Bentwater Lane was struck by lightning on July 11. The responded a little before 1 a.m., but there was no fire, according to Cmdr. John Wallgren.

A neighbor told Patch the home had tarps over the spot where it was hit, and other homes in the Dancing Waters neighborhood may have been struck by lightning as well. Wallgren said he heard of at least one other strike, but nothing substantial was hit.

Next, Patch recently reported on from homes along the 1600-1700 blocks of Spinaker Drive in Woodbury.

One of the homeowners interviewed for that story had light bulbs stolen again recently—one was thrown against a window, which broke. Neighbors’ bulbs were also taken and smashed in driveways, he said.

After speaking with neighbors, the Spinaker Drive resident said he learned that there have been similar incidents in the neighborhood of late.

Finally, there were dozens of watering violations issued in town recently.

On to the blotter…

The following information was obtained from recent police reports.

A Woodbury woman called police on July 8 after she was selling shoes on craigslist and received sexually explicit text messages about her feet, including “Let me smell your feet for $50.” Police contacted the man and told him to stop.

Windows of a 2010 Audi were reported smashed and the frame was bent and several items were stolen, including a purse, while the car was parked at the Bielenberg Sports Center on July 8.

A resident at the 6700 block of Ashwood Road called police on July 8 after hearing what she thought were three gunshots. Police checked the area but didn’t find anything unusual.

A St. Paul woman was cited July 8 for having a small amount of marijuana after police spotted two people smoking what appeared to be a blunt in a lot near Throwbacks Grille and Bar.

A $100 pair of sunglasses was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the 10500 block of Glen Eagle Road on July 8.

Authorities on July 9 were called to a home at the 800 block of Lake Ridge Drive after a support bracket for a metal rack in a microwave spontaneously combusted. The microwave was not being used at the time of the call.

The Woodbury Fire Department put out an oven fire at the 6700 block of Chamberlain Road on July 9.

A resident at the 7200 block of Steepleview Road called police on July 10 after finding that his garage door was pushed ajar. He told police he assumed someone tried to break in.

A handful of residents from nearby cities helped corral a horse that got loose near the 300 block of Manning Avenue on July 10. Police saw the animal running down the middle of Manning Avenue. Officers spoke with the horse’s owner, who said he would put it in a barn and repair the fence.

A power line in a tree near the 1400 block of Pinewood Drive was sparking after heavy rains and wind on July 10. The Woodbury Fire Department secured the scene and Xcel Energy was called in to fix the line.

The passenger-side window of a car parked at the 7200 block of Guider Drive was reported broken on July 11. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

A resident at the 10700 block of Sterling Alcove called police July 11 to report an ongoing issue of a 7-year-old riding an ATV in the street. Police were unable to contact the caller or anyone the home where the child likely lives.

A woman stole $1,000 in merchandise from Bed Bath and Beyond on July 11.

A man at the 2700 block of Wimbledon Ridge called police July 12 after a rock was thrown through his bedroom window while he was sleeping.

A woman at the 500 block of Meadow Lane called police July 12 after a raccoon was captured in a trap at the home. The woman said she was afraid to release the animal, and police transported it to Carver Lake Park, where it was released.
