Woodbury Police Await DNA Results On Sexual Assault

Leads from residents haven't turned up anything promising, authorities say.

The has been pushing state authorities to come back with results of DNA testing related to the late-April sexual assault in the city.

Woodbury police have been calling the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to get the results in the hopes that it will further the investigation, but police department officials have been told they might not hear back until August, Cmdr. Jay Alberio said.

There’s also the possibility that there won’t be a match in the criminal database, but it would allow police to put out a warrant for a John Doe, he said.

Meanwhile, tips called in by Woodbury residents haven’t turned up anything useful, Alberio said.

At about 5:30 a.m. on April 22, a 33-year-old woman was at . Police have no specific description of the suspect, other than it was a man. The woman did not know her assailant.

The attack occurred along a walking path on the northeast side of Markgrafs Lake, which is in the northeast area of Woodbury. The woman was injured and evaluated at .

Police have said that the park is not known as a dangerous area, and they had a difficult time finding a similar incident of an attack by a stranger in recent years.

About a week after the attack, residents in the area .

“It’s scary. It’s a horrible thing that happened to that poor woman,” said Katie Yates, who lives a few blocks from the lake. “You feel safe in Woodbury, but we fall into that trap of thinking we’re always safe.”
