Environmental Excellence Awards: Woodbury Seeking 2013 Nominations

Nominations are due at City Hall by Aug. 30.

Woodbury announced Monday that the city is now accepting nominations for the sixth annual Environmental Excellence Awards.

The awards—developed in 2008 by the Woodbury Sustainability Committee—recognize businesses, nonprofits, schools and residents that are “making Woodbury a more sustainable community through innovative programs and practices that demonstrate environmental leadership,” according to a release from the city.

Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by another individual. Nominations are due at City Hall by Friday, Aug. 30.

The program features 10 award categories:

  • green building;
  • green remodeling;
  • waste reduction and recycling;
  • water conservation;
  • energy efficiency and conservation;
  • use of renewable or alternative energy;
  • sustainable business practices;
  • environmental education and awareness;
  • innovative storm water management practices; and
  • youth leadership.

Nominees must operate or reside within Woodbury. Also, Nominated projects must be located within the city.

Completed nominations are due at City Hall by Friday, Aug. 30.

Applications also can be picked up at City Hall, 8301 Valley Creek Road.

Awards will be presented by Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens at a City Council meeting.
