Woodbury Council: Checking Out New Development, Public Safety Building

City council members on Wednesday will take a brief tour of the expanded Public Safety building and hold a public hearing for new retail sites near the Woodbury SuperTarget.

Plenty of emergency vehicles will soon be heading in and out of the newly expanded building in Woodbury.

But the ceremonial first car through will take a more leisurely pace.

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday(*) will check out the $8 million expansion of the Public Safety Department’s building on Radio Drive. Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens is slated to drive the first vehicle into its new 60-stall garage.

The also provides better access to Radio Drive for fire trucks and ambulances, and the facility will house a 100-seat training room, and additional office and storage space.

The project began last August and is expected to be complete by the end of summer.

Public Hearing

Also on Tuesday, the council is expected to hold a public hearing related to the proposed construction of three multi-tenant retail buildings in the Commerce Hill Development near the new .

Woodbury Developers has submitted an application for a conditional-use permit and final site and building plan approval for its proposal to construct the buildings, which would be built generally to the north and east of the SuperTarget, according to a council memo.

The company is also requesting a drive-thru for one of the retail spaces not identified in the original planned unit development. 

The city's Planning Commission reviewed the request at its July 18 meeting, and recommended approval by a 7-0 vote.
