Woodbury Seeks Applicants For Advisory Groups

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 21.

The city of Woodbury is seeking residents interested in openings for city advisory commissions.

Applications for the volunteer positions will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 21. Most are three-year terms.

"Citizens who are members of advisory groups assist the City Council by making recommendations regarding parks, development proposals, environmental issues, and much more,” Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens said in a statement. “Their contribution to our community is an important one.”

This year, there are 14 openings on the city’s advisory boards. In some instances, incumbents are eligible for reappointment.

The groups are:

  • Audit and Investment Commission
  • Economic Development Commission
  • Environmental Advisory Commission
  • Park and Recreation Commission
  • Planning Commission
  • Watershed District Board

Residents who are interested in serving on any of these advisory groups can call at 651-714-3500 to request an application.

Applications also are available on the Woodbury website, www.ci.woodbury.mn.us—under the “Government” heading, select “Advisory Commissions.”

The Woodbury City Council will interview applicants on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Criteria for evaluation include:

  • personal and professional experience that may relate to the board or commission's directive;
  • knowledge of the community;
  • knowledge of city government process;
  • contribution to creating or maintaining a diversity of membership with respect to geographic location, gender or race; and
  • experience from similar appointments.

New appointees begin their terms in January.
