Wedding Dresses, Concussions and Saving the Planet

The Washington County Historical Society is proud to announce its Fall Dinner and program on Thursday September 27 at the Water Street Inn, 101 Water Street, in Stillwater.


The program will be by Steve Elliott, the Executive Director of the Minnesota Historical Society. The topic is “Wedding Dresses, Concussions and Saving the Planet.”


Elliott was appointed Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Minnesota Historical Society in May 2011. He came to the Society from the New York State Historical Association, the Fenimore Art Museum, and The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, NY, where he served as the President and CEO for nearly six years.

“Having the Director of the Minnesota Historical Society in Stillwater is a great honor,” stated Brent Peterson, Executive Director of the Washington County Historical Society, “He will bring the broader sense of history to Stillwater and Washington County and, with his experience, will be a great speaker on local history.”


Elliott currently serves as the Chair of the American Association for State and Local History (2010-2012). He has also served on the Board and Executive Committee of National History Day and as Board Liaison for the National Council for History Education.

Reservations are required for the event. The cost is $20 per person for members of the Washington County Historical Society and $25 for non-members. The event starts at 5:30pm with check in and social hour, dinner is served at 6:30pm and a short meeting will take place before Elliott’s program.
