Roundup: It’s ‘Play’ Time In Woodbury

Woodbury schools will begin performing their fall plays this weekend.

With colder weather on the horizon, it’s time to start looking indoors for your entertainment.

And this weekend there are some solid theater options available in Woodbury.

East Ridge High School

There are a couple unique things about ’s performance of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which English Department chair Amanda Hestwood is directing.

To start, for the first time at the young school, a student is heading up the set design. Senior Joe Johnson, of Woodbury, has created the sets for the production. .

Second, the audience will have its own role in the musical—the crowd will vote to determine “who done it.”

An opening night gala sponsored by is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Guests will be treated to appetizers, beverages, musicians, a silent auction, and more. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this one-time event are available for $10.

7:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12, and at 3 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 13. Tickets can be purchased at www.theloftstage.com. Advance tickets cost $7 for students/seniors and $9 for adults. Tickets are available at the door at $8 for students/seniors and $10 for adults.

Woodbury High School

It won’t only be students taking the stage for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The school is bringing in more than 40 elementary school students from the area to join the 50-plus high schoolers for the show.

Directed by Karen and Jon Seashore, the musical looks like it should be a great performance. Check out a , and a .

Also, the high school students are working to collect new and gently used coats, scarves, hats, and mittens for Joseph's Coat. Audience members are encouraged to bring items for the St. Paul store, which serves the homeless and struggling families. The students recently received a WCCO Community Spotlight Award for their coat drive.

7 p.m. on Nov. 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12, and 2 p.m. on Nov. 6. Advance tickets cost $9 for adults, $7 for students, and $10 for adults and $8 for students at the door.

Lake Middle School

Not to be outdone by the older student actors in Woodbury, students will perform the comedic tale Seven Nasty Princesses.

It’s the story of two witches (Barfette and Hurlish) and their three witch nephews near the Castle of Gems. Performances are set for 7 p.m. Nov. 10, 11 and 12. Tickets cost $4 for adults and $3 for students. Children 5 and under get in free.
