School Board To Consider Expanding Woodbury’s Liberty Ridge Elementary

The district, trying to address overcrowding at the school, is looking at space across the street from Liberty Ridge.

With an eye toward future growth on the east side of Woodbury, the South Washington County School Board on Thursday will discuss expansion plans for .

The school is already over capacity, and district officials expect enrollment to climb as the area around the school continues to develop.

District 833 intends to and property and construct a 12,500-square-foot addition, according to a board memo from Mike Vogel, assistant to the superintendent for operations.

The estimated cost of the acquisition and expansion is $4.5 million. The proposed construction timeframe is mid-April to mid-August 2012, according to the memo.

The site, where the district currently has three kindergarten classes, is located at the southwest corner of Settlers Ridge Parkway and Eagle View Boulevard.

The district has for the school, whose current enrollment is 980 students. Just two years ago, 220 fewer students attended Liberty Ridge.

The school board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in the Central Services Center in Cottage Grove. The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. for a closed session regarding labor negotiations and an evaluation of the superintendent.
