Woodbury’s Benedict, East Ridge’s LeMay Up for Ms. Softball Award

Two softball standouts from Woodbury are up for the 2012 Ms. Softball Award.

Alex Benedict, from , and Taylor LeMay, from , will find out if they’ve won the award during a June 17 banquet at Jax Café, according to a joint release from the Minnesota Minute Men and the Minnesota Twins. (The 2012 Mr. Baseball will also be announced at the event.)

The finalists were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball scouts and college baseball and softball coaches from around the state. The award “recognizes the success and achievement of these student athletes on the field and honors their dedication to high school softball,” reads a release.

“The Minute Men appreciate the support of the Minnesota Twins and the Twins Community Fund for becoming official sponsors of the award in 2012. We have titled the awards Play Ball! Mr. Baseball, Ms. Softball in correspondence to their sponsorship,” Matt Williams, executive director of the Minute Men, said in the release.

Sponsor and advertising proceeds will go toward the Minnesota Minute Men Foundation, which provides resources to underprivileged youth athletes in Minnesota.
