Sports for 3- and 4-Year-Olds in Woodbury: Readers React

Tips from Patch users about local preschool sport leagues.

Can you or the readers help me find information on preschool sport leagues in the Woodbury area? I have a 3 almost 4 year old who is bored watching his 7-year-old sister’s gymnastics. He wants to play a sport too. I appreciate it. Also, I have Googled and searched but come up empty for this age group. Thanks so much!

Patch: I'm guessing Woodbury Athletic Association and Woodbury Parks & Recreation would be good places to start.

Mickenzie: Both of those are great places to start. Also, Cottage Grove athletics has great athletics for preschool kiddos. My four year old’s soccer season starts in two weeks.

Mickenzie: This age group can be tough. Woodbury usually offers combo sports camps for this age and Cottage Grove has actual teams and seasons for this age.

Beth-Ann: ECFE

Woodbury Parks & Rec: Woodbury Parks & Recreation offers introduction sports for 3-4 year olds. We have a few openings left in our Pee Wee Sports this summer in the evenings. Soccer, T-ball, or a Combo class. In the fall we offer evening sports; soccer, floor hockey, basketball, combo, and tumbling. In the fall we will also have some new soccer classes on the weekends. Our fall brochure will hit mailboxes the end of August. Call Elizabeth in the Recreation Department for more information 651-414-3437.

Tracy: Cottage Grove United Soccer starts at 4 years old. Depending on the date of birth it could work for you. We live in Woodbury, but will be playing soccer with them since WAA does not start until age 5. http://www.cgaa.org/

Ice skating and hockey have been fun for all of my kids (age 2, 4 and 7). http://www.woodburyhockey.com/

Community Ed. also has some things for younger kids. My little ones have done gymnastics at Park and Woodbury High School.

We also have done the ECFE preschool classes. They might have more sports that we didn’t try http://www.cecool.com/

And swim lessons have also kept my kids busy. We’ve been to FOSS and YMCA. http://www.fossswimschool.com/

We have had fun with all these places. Good Luck!

Katie: I keep mine busy with the YMCA and tae kwon do with Master Kim. So many options in Woodbury.

Crista: Community Ed usually offers classes where they can try multiple sports! Not sure which District you're in but I also know SCVAA.org also allows kids going into K to participate (for next year)!

Kara: This age group requires early registration...people often stay up until midnight on day of registration to sign up. We've missed out on several preschool sports activities because I tried to register the morning/afternoon of registration day.
