Driving Toward Success? Woodbury’s Eagle Valley Golf Course

The city council got an update on the course during its recent budget workshop.

Woodbury has been looking to improve the financial standing of the city-owned .

And, like a 9 iron from the fairway, things are looking up, for this summer, at least.

Revenue at the course was up 34 percent over 2011 through Aug. 15, while rounds increased 37 percent, officials said during a recent Woodbury City Council budget workshop. Membership in the course’s Royal Club was also up by more than 250 over last year’s numbers.

One of the main factors for the uptick was a , according to Community Development Director Dwight Picha.

also contributed to the gains, head pro Dan Moris said. Many people likely didn’t obtain Royal Club membership last year because of the poor start to the 2011 season, he said, as golfers probably figured they missed a few months of play with the discount card.

The city previously formed a task force to look at ways to boost rounds and improve the finances at the golf course, and the group crafted a three-year plan to do so.

Part of the new marketing efforts will include pushing the Royal Club this winter, Moris said.

The city also plans to refurbish the clubhouse at Eagle Valley, which should open the door for more rentals, Picha said. And the course's website will be integrated into the city's website.

The has also “been received really well,” Moris said.
