Brief: Miracle Field Fundraiser Nets Nearly $80,000

The original fundraising goal for the new field for children with disabilities was $35,000.

When funding for a new was $35,000 short, a group of local residents stepped up.

Boy did they ever.

Wade Hanson—one of the organizers of —told Patch that nearly $80,000 was raised, easily doubling the original goal.

“This event was a huge success and we were very happy that the Minnesota Network was able to help make this field a reality,” Hanson said.

Construction on the Jeff Hanson Miracle Field—a specially designed field that provides opportunities for youngsters with disabilities to play baseball—began in early August. The field, which is being built at the , could be completed as soon as next spring.

The total construction cost is estimated at more than $250,000. The Woodbury Rotary Club, along with Miracle League of Minnesota, coordinated the majority of the fundraising efforts through numerous events and private donations.

Most of the money beyond the $35,000 will go toward an ongoing maintenance fund for the field; some will be used for equipment for the Miracle League athletes, Hanson said.

The Sept. 11 fundraiser was organized by Hanson, Tony Huot, Bill Dougherty, Bryan Nelson, DJ Troje, Ryan Warner and Mark Hargis.
